This October, something special is coming to the Gold Coast.
Journey Jiu-Jitsu welcomes Matheus Gabriel × Samuel Nagai for an exclusive two-hour BJJ seminar on the Gold Coast.
Two elite competitors who have trained and pushed each other at the highest level — now sharing the mats at Journey for one night.
4x IBJJF World Champion Matheus Gabriel is one of the most accomplished and technically respected competitors of his generation.
A longtime Checkmat standout, Matheus first reached the top of the black-belt World Championship podium in 2019 and has continued to establish himself among Jiu-Jitsu’s elite across multiple weight divisions.
His career has also been defined by an incredible ability to overcome setbacks. After reconstructive knee surgery and a serious shoulder injury kept him away from competition, Matheus returned to the highest level and captured the 2026 IBJJF Lightweight World Championship, delivering three submission finishes during his title run and submitting Jackson Nagai in the final.
Known for his technical precision, intelligent strategy and dangerous submission game, Matheus brings years of experience competing — and winning — against some of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes in the world.
This October, Gold Coast BJJ practitioners will have the rare opportunity to learn directly from Matheus at the Matheus Gabriel × Samuel Nagai BJJ Seminar on the Gold Coast, hosted at Journey Jiu-Jitsu.
2023 IBJJF Black Belt World Champion Samuel Nagai is known for his explosive, fast-paced and submission-focused style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Samuel’s success began long before reaching the black belt level. A Juvenile World Champion and 2018 Purple Belt World Champion, he quickly established himself as one of the standout athletes of his generation before receiving his black belt from Keiser Girão in 2020.
After earning bronze at the 2022 IBJJF World Championships, Samuel returned in 2023 determined to reach the top of the podium. He delivered five victories against some of the world’s best featherweights, including a semifinal submission over defending World Champion Isaac Doederlein, before defeating Diego Sodré in the final to become the 2023 IBJJF Black Belt World Champion.
His success continued later that year at The IBJJF Crown, where he defeated fellow World Champions Diego Pato and Isaac Doederlein to claim another major title.
Known for his aggressive passing, constant movement and ability to find submissions, Samuel brings an exciting and highly technical approach to Jiu-Jitsu.
This October, Gold Coast BJJ practitioners will have the opportunity to experience that approach firsthand as Samuel joins Matheus Gabriel for an exclusive BJJ seminar at Journey Jiu-Jitsu on the Gold Coast.
