Take Your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the Next Level

The Journey Jiu Jitsu Competition Youth Program is designed for students aged 7+ who are ready to challenge themselves through more advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.

Held every Friday, these Gi-only classes focus on refining technique, developing competition-specific skills, and building the mindset needed to perform under pressure. While the program supports students who wish to compete, it’s also ideal for those who simply want to train at a higher intensity and accelerate their technical development.

Who Is the Youth Program For?
What Will Students Learn?
Why Gi-Only?

This program is ideal for students who:

  • Have a solid understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals.
  • Enjoy challenging themselves and setting personal goals.
  • Want to improve their technique and mat awareness.
  • Are interested in competing or training at a higher level.
  • Thrive in a focused and hard-working team environment.

Coach approval may be recommended to ensure students are ready for the technical level and training focus of this class.

Our Competition Youth Program builds on the foundations developed in our regular Youth classes, with a stronger emphasis on performance and advanced problem-solving.

Students will develop:

  • Advanced Gi techniques and combinations.
  • Judo-based takedowns and standing exchanges.
  • Competition strategy and scoring awareness.
  • Grip fighting and positional control.
  • Efficient transitions and submissions.
  • Match management and decision-making.
  • Conditioning through high-intensity training.

Every session is designed to help students become smarter, more technical, and more confident on the mats.

This program is taught exclusively in the Gi, allowing students to develop strong grip fighting, technical precision, and positional control.

The Gi encourages strategic thinking and attention to detail, making it an excellent environment for students who want to continue progressing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. While this class is designed to prepare students for competition, your child does not have to compete to participate. It is also ideal for students who simply want to train at a higher intensity and continue developing their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills.

This program is designed for students who already have experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. If you're unsure whether it's the right fit for your child, speak with one of our coaches—we'll be happy to recommend the most suitable class.

This is a Gi-only class. Students should wear a clean Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi and belt. Journey Jiu Jitsu gis are available to purchase at the academy if needed.

Absolutely. We welcome students of all abilities and understand that every child learns differently.

Because the Competition Youth Program is more technical and fast-paced than our regular Youth classes, we'll take the time to understand your child's individual needs and discuss whether this class is the best fit for them. Many children with ADHD or autism thrive in the structured environment, clear routines, and goal-oriented nature of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

If your child has any additional needs or considerations, we encourage you to contact us before their first class. We're happy to work with you to ensure they have the best possible experience and, if appropriate, recommend the program that will help them succeed.
